The NEF Research Library houses special collections of naturist-related materials available for viewing by appointment to scholars and journalists doing research on naturism (i.e., nudism, or other forms of non-sexualized social nudity). The Library is not, however, open for walk-in visits by the general public. This is to help maintain the physical condition of the Library's rare and often fragile materials. Nor is the Library a lending library; no materials may leave the building at any time.
If you are doing research on naturism and wish to access the Library collections at the Library location in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, please fill out the Visitation Application, and email a completed copy to NEF Research Library director Mark Storey at firstname.lastname@example.org or mail it to NEF at Naturist Education Foundation, PO Box 132, Oshkosh WI 54903. The director will contact you and confer with staff from The Naturist Society to determine when a volunteer may assist you in your visit.
The NEF Research Library is a project of the Naturist Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and as such is reliant on volunteers and monetary donations for the research opportunities the Library offers. At the present time, no fee is charged to enter the Library or do research in the Library. However, volunteer time to assist and oversee researchers may be limited, so NEF retains the right to limit the Library's use to when NEF can find volunteers to provide researchers access to the Library's materials. NEF hopes that by making its materials available to researchers, all aspects of naturist history and values may accurately be made public. Neither NEF nor its Research Library discriminates on the basis of race or ethnicity; color; national origin; sex; marital status; sexual orientation; age; religion; genetic information; the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability; gender identity; or veteran status when considering visitation requests.
The NEF Research Library presently has table space for writing and reading. A limited amount of copying of pages from materials for individual research use is available for a nominal copier fee. There is no eating or drinking inside the Library; a picnic table is available for outdoor breaks; a variety of restaurants and hotels are a short drive away. There is ample free parking at the Library. NEF restricts the bringing in of materials that may be hazardous to the collections. There is no smoking or eating in the Library. Service animals are allowed to the extent required by law.
The NEF Research Library is a clothing-optional facility. That said, NEF understands that some researchers visiting the Library will prefer to work clothed, as will be the volunteers from The Naturist Society who work all day with
the public. NEF will make an attempt to accommodate a researcher wishing assurance that those sharing the Library with him or her will be dressed. NEF requires that researchers working clothes-free do so in a manner as not to be
seen by the public from any Library doors or windows. Any minor (under 18 years of age) doing research at the NEF Research Library must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
